Victoria West proves too powerful for Cardinals

East Central (24-16) battled Brennan (29-12) on even terms in the first two games of a Class 6A bi-district match Tuesday at Cole. The Bears prevailed 28-26, 23-25, 25-13, 25-15.
The loss ended an 11-match winning streak for the District 28-6A champion Hornets.
Only two of the area’s 10 playoff qualifiers advanced from the first round. Holy Cross and Providence each reached the TAPPS state quarterfinals.
Junior Kaylin Mills led East Central with 33 assists and 10 digs. Madison Simon contributed 11 kills and 11 digs. Defensive leaders for the Hornets were senior Brandi Campos (17 digs) and Nichole West (16 digs, 2 aces).
The other top hitters were Lindsey Lubianski (9 kills, 5 digs), Skeyler Embry (8 kills) and Christie Cosper (7 kills).
Victoria West 3, Southside 0
Southside (20-16) ended its season with a solid performance against state-ranked Victoria West Tuesday in a Class 5A bi-district match in Seguin. The Warriors (31-9) won 25-12, 25-20, 25-17.
Victoria West, No. 12 in the current Texas Girls Coaches Association Class 5A poll, had a balanced offensive attack. The Warriors were led by Jillian Hermann (11 kills), Saige McLarty (10 kills) and Brooke Kirkpatrick (8 kills).
Ashley Sanchez and Analee Uriegas led the Cardinals with six digs apiece and Briana Martinez made three. Sanchez also finished with six kills.
Floresville 3, McCollum 0
McCollum (24-9) lost its second in a row following a 16-match winning streak Tuesday in a Class 5A bi-district contest. Floresville (27-16) defeated the district 28-5A champion Cowboys 25-13, 25-18, 25-10 at Wagner.
Senior Catie Gonzalez led McCollum with 17 digs. Savannah Borjas added nine digs. Neyda Sanchez finished her Cowboys career with six kills.
Michaela Sifuentes led Floresville with 28 assists, 11 digs and three aces.
Boerne Champion 3, Highlands 0
District 28-5A runner-up Highlands (25-13) was eliminated with a 25-10, 25-16, 25-12 loss to Boerne Champion (19-12) in a Class 5A bi-distrct match Monday at O’Connor.
Haley Higgins led the Chargers with 23 assists, six kills and four assists.
