Hays defeats Jefferson
TEAMS INCLUDED: Highlands, Jefferson.
Holmes made a furious comeback, scoring 30 points in the fourth quarter, but Highlands held on for a season-opening victory Monday at Paul Taylor Gym. The Owls prevailed 65-63.
Highlands took a commanding 33-23 halftime lead. The Owls extended their lead to 14 points entering the final quarter.
Sophomore Aaliyah Prince led the Owls with 21 points. Junior guard Jina Lackey also had a strong first outing with 19 points. M. Reyes added 10 points.
Hays 62, Jefferson 20
The Rebels won the season opener for both teams handily behind 17 points from 6-foot-3 post Jill Borreson Monday in Buda.
Sasha Barrientos was the only double-figure scorer for Jefferson. Barrientos finished with 10 points.
The Mustangs played without volleyball players Krystin Garcia, Gabby Vasquez and Melanie Ybarra, who have a bi-district match Tuesday against Boerne Champion (6 p.m. at Blossom Athletic Center).

How did Holmes make a 30-point comeback when then were only down by 10 at half and 14 after three quarters? Did Highlands score 16 straight to start the fourth or something?

Holmes scored 30 points in the fourth quarter after being down by 14 points at the end of three. That was the comeback. I wasn’t saying that they came back from a 30-point deficit.
