Highlands recorded its biggest victory since a season-opening win over East Central Wednesday at the Alamo Convocation Center.

The Owls (9-11, 3-1) settled into third place in District 29-4A with a 61-57 win over Lanier (15-7, 1-3), which continued to struggle with its early district schedule.

The Voks led Highlands 20-13 at the end of the first quarter and 30-24 at halftime. Highlands trimmed two points off the lead in the third quarter and ambushed Lanier with its pressing defense in the fourth, outscoring the formerly state-ranked team 21-13.

Junior point guard Jamaria Moody led Highlands with 17 points. Sophomore Demarcus Hartsfield produced 15 points and Jermichael Shirley supplied 12. Xavier Long gave the Owls a lift with eight points.

Senior Ajax Reyes led Lanier with 15 points. Chris Salazar knocked down 14 points.
