Sam Houston picks up pair of wins in Boerne Tourney
TEAMS INCLUDED: Central Catholic, East Central, Harlandale, Sam Houston, South San, Southwest.
Central Catholic (12-6) came back from a halftime deficit Friday in Floresville to extend its winning streak to nine-consecutive games.
The host Tigers (5-11) led 29-25 at halftime. Central Catholic took control in the third quarter, outscoring Floresville 18-7 over eight mintues to pull away for a 57-48 victory.
Senior wing Stuart Lynch led Central Catholic with 18 points. P.J. Escobar contributed 14 points. Tony Lewis added eight points.
Boerne ISD Tournament
Sam Houston (10-7) got off to a rousing start at the Boerne ISD Tournament Friday, defeating Seguin 57-53 and Boerne 58-43.
Senior guard Jordon Harris erupted for 27 points against Seguin (6-12). Junior post Devin Allen chipped in with 10 points against the Matadors. The Hurricanes outscored Seguin 9-6 in the fourth quarter to secure the victory.
Against Boerne (12-8), Robert Christian stepped forward for the Hurricanes with 21 points. Harris added 14 points and Allen finished with 10.
East Central (11-7) split two close games, defeating Round Rock McNeil 62-60 and falling 96-90 to Clemens (15-2) in a shootout.
The Hornets trailed 30-27 at halftime against McNeil, but the Hornets outscored the Mavericks 17-12 in the third quarter and held on to win. Senior guard Ceddrick Ali led East Central with 17 points. Seniors Brandon McClure and Albert Jimenez scored 13 apiece. Junior Robert Keno supplied eight points.
Against Clemens, the Buffaloes built a 50-36 halftime cushion. The Hornets raced to 54 second-half points to make the final margin close.
McClure scored 22 points and Ali provided 20 to lead the Hornets. Jimenez finished with 14 points. Keno, Patrick Hamilton and Jeremy Jones all contributed nine points.
Jalon Gates scored 23 for Clemens.
Southwest (4-13) lost a tough tournament game 51-45 to Boerne Champion (10-3) and fell 49-38 to San Antonio Christian (21-8).
Corpus Christi Calallen Tournament
South San (9-8) crushed Alice 81-25 and lost 52-45 to Corpus Christi Miller in two games Friday in Corpus Christi.
Junior guard Olando Lopez led the Bobcats with 22 points against Alice. Seniors Eric Alcozer (15 points), David Valdez (14) and Thomas Fonseca (10) all scored in double figures.
Lopez scored 13 against Miller. Alcozer and Jesse Samarripas added nine apiece.
Texan Hoop Fest
Harlandale (10-7) split two games Friday in Wimberley, defeating Austin Concordia Academy 75-57 and losing a 69-68 heartbreaker to Leander Rouse.
` Harlandale began the tournament Thursday with a 65-59 loss to Pflugerville Connally and a 66-55 loss to The Woodlands College Park.
No individual statistics are available for the Indians from any of the tournament games.
