Jefferson claims decisive non-district win

Senior Ruby Chapa scored 19 points Tuesday, leading Fox Tech (2-2) to a 44-38 win over Young Women’s Leadership Academy in a District 28-4A game at Fox Tech.
The Buffaloes opened a 17-10 lead in the first quarter of the District 28-4A game. The Cardinals outscored Fox Tech 28-27 over the last three quarters.
Senior Elisabeth Crane added 12 points for Fox Tech. Sophomore Julianna Lopez led YWLA with 10 points.
Jefferson 58, Memorial 37
Jefferson (5-7) rolled to a 36-11 halftime lead in a non-district win over Memorial Tuesday at Highlands.
Senior Adriana Aguinaga scored 16 points and Sasha Barrientos scored 15 for the victorious Mustangs. Melanie Ybarra poured in nine points. Mary Loera and Hardcastle scored eight apiece.
Memorial was led by Larissa Lopez with 13 points. Lucinda Mireles contributed nine.
Harlandale 40, Holy Cross 38
The Indians (6-7) opened a 17-7 lead in the opening quarter of the non-district game at Harlandale, but the Knights (5-9) were within a point by halftime and stayed close the rest of the way.
Senior post Connie Garza led Harlandale with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Sophomore Justyne Perez scored nine. Kelly Landin scored six points and dealt four assists. Elizabeth Herrera grabbed seven rebounds.
Holy Cross received 11 points from Joslyn Flores. Julia Flores and Brianna Salinas each scored nine.
Lanier 44, Burbank 35
The Voks (5-10, 2-0) remained unbeaten in District 28-4A with a win over the Bulldogs (3-10, 0-2) Tuesday. Sophomore Sabrina Cortinas scored 18 points for Lanier. Ashley Lopez contributed 11.
For Burbank, Abigail Macias and Alejandra Martinez each scored 10 points.
Brennan 75, Highlands 23
The Bears (11-0, 2-0), No. 1 in the Express-News area rankings, remained undefeated in a District 28-4A game Tuesday at Brennan.
Sophomore Aaliyah Prince scored a team-high eight points for Highlands (12-8,1-1).
Carlie Heineman and Kealani Marquez each scored 15 points for Brennan.
