Holy Cross won two of the first three games, but couldn’t quite hang on to defeat host Houston Lutheran South Academy (28-9-1) Friday afternoon in a TAPPS Class 4A second round match. The home team prevailed 15-25, 25-6, 22-25, 25-18, 15-12.

The Knights, who finished their season with a 28-12 record, were led by two of their seniors. Setter-hitter Mallory Ozuna supplied 25 assists and served three aces. Libero Julia Ibarra hustled for a team-best 32 digs.

Daisy Flores also served three aces for Holy Cross. Freshman Henrianna Ibarra was its top hitter with 15 kills.

Holy Cross finished third in District 3-4A. Lutheran South was runner-up in District 4-4A.

Providence

The Provets (12-21) drew District 3-5A champion Houston St. Agnes (31-7) in their TAPPS Class 5A second-round match in Salado. Providence never got rolling in its final match of the season and experienced a 25-9, 25-9, 25-8 loss.

Statistics for Providence were not available. The Provets were the fifth seed from District 2-5A.
