Bulldogs take lead into fourth quarter on Sanchez TD

Ramon Richards threw a 17-yard pass to Marco Marble with 5:52 remaining to lead Brackenridge (5-3, 3-1) to a 26-21 win over rival Burbank (3-6, 2-3) Saturday afternoon at the SAISD Sports Complex.

Burbank had taken the lead in a back-and-forth District 28-4A game on a four-yard run from senior Jeremy Sanchez (132 yards, 13 carries) with 7:15 to play. Sanchez had tied it 14-14 early in the third quarter with a 44-yard touchdown run.

Eagles junior running back Trey Mathis (151 yards, 19 carries) broke a 35-yard scoring run late in the quarter.

Brackenridge, which is tied for second place with Lanier, never trailed on their way to their seventh-consecutive victory in the series.

The Eagles took a 7-0 lead on a five-yard run by Richards with 4:25 left in the first quarter. The senior completed 13 of 23 passes for 236 yards.

The Bulldogs tied it initially on the ensuing possession with a 58-yard pass to speedy Marcos Luna from quarterback J.P. Barrera. Barrera passed for 100 yards in his first start, completing nine of 16 throws.

Twenty-three seconds later, Richards connected with Marble (169 yards, 7 catches) for a 63-yard score, which held up for a 14-7 halftime lead.

Despite the loss, Burbank holds fourth place in 28-4A.
