FOOTBALL: Week 2 previews

THURSDAY

East Central (2-0) vs. Brennan (2-0) at Farris Stadium, 7:30 p.m.

East Central, No. 23 in the TexasHSFootball.com statewide Class 5A rankings, once more matches itself against the Northside ISD with a game against District 28-4A favorite Brennan, ranked No. 3 in the website’s Class 4A poll. The Hornets will pit their diverse attack against the Bears’ ball-control oriented attack. The performance of EC’s defense, led by Dennis Sanchez, should be the best indicator of the Hornets’ chances to spring an upset and remain undefeated. Keeping mobile Bears quarterback Da’Shawn Key under control will be a top priority. Taking an early lead and/or producing big plays will be important for a potent Hornets offense. At the very least, the Hornets should be the first team to score on Brennan’s defense this year. 2012 score: Brennan 24, East Central 0.
